Dr Maya Angelou is a renowned and celebrated author and poet whose works have earned over 50 awards including the Presidential medal of freedom. Loved by many and cherished by all, has today Wednesday 28th May passed on aged 86. Her memoir – I know why the caged bird sings – was one of the first best sellers by African Americans and continued to make history over the years. Her poem – Still I rise , has inspired generations gone and to come. Her passing away will no doubt be a huge loss to all literary scholars, especially African Americans. We will mourn her deeply in our hearts. May she rest in peace.
