FASHION MEETS ANGELMAN SYNDROME
Twenty Innovative International Fashion Designers made the trek from across the globe to Manhattan on Saturday 25 April 2015, to take part in the first ever New York City, FDC Angelman Syndrome Collections Showcase. While the goal was to raise awareness and funds for Angelman Syndrome the event marked the first Fashion Designers’ and Craft makers Network gathering in the United States of America. Held at the Studio Arte, the organisation also used the showcase to highlight two promising designers and UK FDC young designer award winners, Naomi Thompson – Naomi S Leotta and Abbie Miriam Ivy Smith – AMIS Designs.
The show producer, Joanna Marcella is a London based knitwear designer and the founder of the Fashion Designers’ & Craft Makers’ Angelman Syndrome Collections Showcase, as well as the founder of the FDC Young Designer Awards; Joanna says, “This event marks the creation of the Fashion Meets Angelman Syndrome story. This is a rare disorder and many people have not heard of it; what better way tell our story and raise awareness but through fashion and in glorious pictures.”
Joanna Marcella’s little grandson is living with this rare neuro-genetic condition and the team of doctors and scientists at FAST the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics are working hard to find a cure.
