This year’s Miss Uganda pageant had the honour of Hon Cecilia Ogwal who is one of the most powerful Ugandan women leaders and winner of the first ever Miss Uganda to become the Miss Brook Bond Tea in 1969.
On the organiser’s Facebook they wrote, “Once a beauty queen always a beauty queen. We were privileged to host former Miss Uganda Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, commonly known as Maama Cecilia Ogwal, over the weekend at the Miss Uganda grand finale 2016 held at the Kampala Serena Hotel. she’s a Ugandan politician, businesswoman and management consultant.
She is the Member of Parliament for the Dokolo District Women’s Constituency. She has been a member of Uganda’s legislature, continuously since 1996 and now our patron at the Miss Uganda Foundation. The queens now have a new Grandma.”
As the outgoing Miss Uganda Zahara Nakiyaga was handed over the sash and Tiara Leah Kagasa in the presence of Hon Cecilia Ogwal. Who encourage the girls to keep good morals as Beauty Queens and at the same time reminded those who didn’t go through, not to worry because it wasn’t the end of the road for them.
The new Miss Uganda Leah Kagasa, is a 21 year old student from Makerere University Business School who represented Tooro region in the two months search for Miss Uganda 2016. As the winner, Miss Leah will now represent Uganda at the Miss World contest.
Miss Leah was crowned at the high profile ceremony last Saturday, 17th October, which took place at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall. As the overall winner, the 21 year old also took home a brand new Toyota Will Vs.
The second runner up was Ruth Ricky Mutoni from Kanungu district as Charlotte Kyohairwe was crowned 1st runner up. As Miss Uganda 2016/17, Kagasa will represent Uganda at the Miss Uganda world which will take place in US this December.
