Chopova Lowena Emerges Winner For The 2024 Designer Fashion Fund

The British Fashion Council (BFC) is thrilled to announce Chopova Lowena, the brainchild of Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, as the winner of the 2024 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. Established in 2008, the prestigious award provides £150,000 to support the growth of a promising British fashion label, along with invaluable pro-bono business mentoring and professional services. The Fund is generously supported by British Vogue, Burberry, and Paul Smith.

Founded in 2017, Chopova Lowena celebrates a unique blend of British and Bulgarian craftsmanship. Their vibrant designs juxtapose folklore references with a modern sportswear aesthetic, prioritizing sustainability through recycled materials and deadstock textiles. The brand’s signature piece, a reconstructed folkloric textile skirt, has become a global street style phenomenon, solidifying Chopova Lowena and its founders as rising stars in British fashion.

Caroline Rush CBE, Chief Executive of the BFC, congratulated the duo: “We were incredibly impressed by Chopova Lowena’s bold and sustainable approach. It’s been inspiring to witness their journey, gaining a devoted following and achieving cult status. We’re excited to see their continued impact and creative vision unfold.”

Chioma Nnadi, Head of Editorial Content at British Vogue, echoed the sentiment: “I’m thrilled for Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena. Since launching, they’ve built a loyal community around their brand, and their signature carabiner skirts are a testament to their innovative spirit. They’ve challenged conventional norms, and I eagerly anticipate their future endeavors.”

Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena expressed their gratitude: “We’re honored to receive the BFC/Vogue Fund. Being shortlisted alongside such talented designers and following in the footsteps of past winners is truly inspiring. The support of the BFC and Vogue is invaluable, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to take Chopova Lowena to the next level. London is central to our brand identity, and we’re proud to be part of this vibrant creative community. We extend our deepest thanks to our incredible team and the judging panel. We’re excited for what the future holds!”
