Wednesday saw the second round of matches of the 2015 Afcon start with the action circling back to Group A. The hosts, Equatorial Guinea took on Burkina Faso while Gabon faced Congo.
Guinea and Burkina Faso played to a goalless draw. In round 1 Burkina Faso was the only side not to put a point on the table, making this their first log point of the tournament. This result should frustrate the 2013 runner-ups as they created numerous chances throughout the game but failed to capitalize on them. The Burkinabé were haunted by an inability to find target in both halves with Bertrand Traore almost scoring near the end of the first half and Jonathan Pitroipa failing to execute a tap-in set up by teammate Aristide Bance.
A goal from Prince Oniangue three minutes after half time saw Congo take the lead in their encounter against Gabon. Gabon, like Burkina Faso, failed to capitalize on their numerous chances to take the reins of the match unlike Congo who only managed to create one significant opening throughout the whole game and made it count. Congo shifted gears to a solid defensive game for the remainder of the match and clinched victory.
The groups currently standing is at:
Group A is led by Congo with 4 points Gabon fell to second place with 3 points followed by Equatorial Guinea with 2 and Burkina Faso with 1 point.
Group B has all four sides at a point each after both matches ended in 1- all draws.
Group C sees Algeria and Senegal at 3 points each with Algeria leading by goal difference. Ghana and South Africa have zero points as a result of their respective losses.
Group D also has all teams at a point each as a result of a group wide draw.
