Dr Ngozi Okonjo, Nigerian Economic and Finance Minister has released images of her visit to Chibok school in Borno Nigeria where the country’s Islamic militants were said to have abducted over 200 school girls since nearly a year ago.
The news broke on the 15th of April 2014 of the abduction of over 250 schools girls by the Islamist militants leaving the entire world shocked and disbelief. The abduction prompted a worldwide social media campaign #Bringback our girls, in which United States First Lady Michelle Obama was one of the high profile women to be part of. Since the Nigerian government has been criticised for not doing enough to secure release of the girls and to help the families understand the situation.
Today, the finace minister has taken to the social media – LinkedIn to announce and show how the government is helping to rebuild lives and work with both the schools and the parents. This emerges as the President – Goodluck Jonathan earlier announced that the girls were still alive and will be released as reported by This Day today.
