Missy Elliot becomes first female hip-hop artist and third rapper to be inducted into songwriters hall of fame.

Born Melissa Arnette “Missy”/”Misdemeanor” Elliott an acclaimed American rapper, singer, songwriter, dancer and record producer, debuted her solo music career after several collaborations in 1997. Dominating the late 90s and early 2000s rap scene, Missy became one of the most recognisable faces and voices of a female rapper globally.

The 47 year old who is acclaimed as the greatest rap voices of all time established an international career that produced hits including “Get Ur Freak On”, “One Minute Man”, “4 My People”, “Gossip Folks”, and “Work It”.

Winning  Grammy Award for Best Female Rap Solo Performance with the hit single, Work It, she went on to win four Grammy Awards and sell over 30 million records in the United States. In 2017, she was named the best-selling female rapper in Nielsen Music history by Billboard .

In its nearly 50 years, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has recognized the achievements of songwriters, its a shame that its only now a female rapper is being recognised.
Along with Missy are other five songwriters also inducted for this year’s recognition – Yusuf Islam, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, Dallas Austin and Jack Tempchin.

Missy Elliott’s also becomes just the third rapper to be included in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The ‘Spit it Out’ rapper has written for world a most famous artists such as; Tunnel and, Aaliyah, Busta Rhymes, Beyoncé, Destiny’s Child, TLC, Madonna Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige among many others.
